REGISTRATION OF BIRTHS AND DEATHS AND ISSUE OF CERTIFICATES

• Registration of Birth and Death is compulsory
• Birth and Death events to be registered at the place of occurrence
• Registration of Birth and Death that had occurred even prior to enactment of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act 1969.
• Reporting of Birth and Death within 21 days of occurrence of the events
• Birth and Death have been issued for the year from 1880 to till date
• Special provision as to registration of Births and Deaths of citizen outside India
• The true copy of the Birth and Death Certificates have been issued for the period till to 1880 within 15 days on receipt of the application (subject to condition of record)
• The Birth Certificate for the period till to 1930 and Death Certificate for the period till to 1954 will be issued in receipt of the application not only through computer center in Pondicherry Municipality and also at 42 Common Service Centre in Union Territory of Puducherry.
• Renunciation Certificate for the period from 01.01.1882 to 16.08.1962 will be issued.
• Name could be incorporated in the Birth Certificate till 31.12.2014 from the birth occurred before 2000 as on time measure.
• Marriage Certificates have been issued for the year from 1880 to till date all marriages has been Registered by French Language.
• The name of the adopted parents could be incorporated by replaying the Biological Parents in the Birth Certificate.
• Issuing of burial permission to the residence of Puducherry Municipal limits.

The delay in the registration of vital events can be condoned by the following authorities :-

• By the Registrar of Births & Deaths in case the delay is less than 30 days from the date of event on payment of a fee of Rs.10/-
• By the Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths (Local Administration Department) if the delay is between one month and one year on payment of fee of Rs.10/-
• By the Civil court in case of delay of more than one year on payment of Rs.20/-

Application for Civil Marriages should be submitted supported with extract of the Birth Certificate of bride and bridegroom. The Marriage will be solemnized after ii days from the date of publication of Ban

The Marriage belonging to the Hindu and Muslim solemnized on custom or usage or tradition within the concerned Jurisdiction of the registrar which should be notified within 15 days following the celebration by producing prescribed documents of the bride and bridegroom, will be registered.
